You know that the year is almost over when you start seeing the Christmas ads on TV and the annual competition between the like of Marks and Spencer’s and John Lewis trying to gain our attention with their festive commercials. It also means that at church we are in full swing getting everything ready for the advent services. So here are my favourite songs and carols.Christmas candles

_45067947_-18I was led to believe that the largest sterling bank note that existed in the UK was £100.  But recently I read an article on the BBC News website called “Britian’s £1m and £100m banknotes”.  In that article Chris Bowlby introduced me to the giants and titans.  Giants and titans are £1m and £100m bank notes that are not in circulation but have been printed for very specific purposes.  There are a number of commerical banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland that can print their own money.  But to print their own money they have to make a deposit in the Bank of England for the same value of money they plan to print in sterling, so should a bank fail there is the equivalent amout of Bank of England cash available to replace it.   The amount of space required to store such vast amounts of money would be huge and so the Bank of England prints these notes and very carefully stores them in their vault.

I’d imagine if any bank robber where to stumble upon them then they would think they would be rich beyond their wildest dreams, on paper at least.  But trying to spend one in your local Morrisons might just get you a funny look from the cashier when she tried to count out the change.  In the Bible Jesus says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”  I don’t know about you but it seems to me you can have all the wealth, gadgets and trinkets in the world but none of that will give you life, not the life that Jesus is talking about.  There is a hope and a contentment that comes only from knowing Jesus.  There is a fullness of life that can only be experienced through Jesus.  Have a great day.
